When designing an online advertising campaign, your upfront research will be what determines the success or failure of the exercise. Online advertising is keyword based, and popular keywords demand a price that reflects that popularity. Advertising on search engines is one of the primary methods of website promotion, and we all know how competitive search engine rankings are. However, if you do your upfront research you will find that the most popular keywords are not always the best.

Lets use the football industry as an example. Football is obviously among the top keywords in this market, and it is likely the most expensive.This/tag helps explain it more. So lets say you have enough budget to put an advertisement up for five days using the football keyword. If you sit down and think about what people might search for, you will find that there are several other keywords that people will very likely use that might not be as popular. The keywords “football players” might only be a quarter as popular, but it will command a much lower price. By finding alternative keywords you will be able to have a much wider visibility with the same budget. Just because it is not the most popular keyword on the subject doesn’t mean it doesn’t get a fair share of traffic that you can tap into at a fraction of the cost.

Photoshop is a neat little tool for editing your images and creating web and print ready marketing materials. There are a slew of benefits to using Photoshop over a freeware program. Photoshop has the advantage of universality, many people have it and know how to use it. You can pretty easily create a file and send it elsewhere for touch-up work by someone else.

In addition to its ease of access, Photoshop has many utilities that make editing fun and functional. Head-shots can be airbrushed with just a few layer pallets, and blemishes removed instantaneously. Product shots are simple to enhance and the text warping tool will allow a user to fit wording around a object without laying over top of it.

Photoshop is not difficult to learn, and any computer savvy person can master the basics in just a few hours – sizing, color correcting and cropping, to name a few. More advanced users can work with layering objects to create stunning photographs for a company’s marketing material.

The ability to set the size of your image by pixels or dimensions makes Photoshop a logical choice for creating web banners and site images; you can create your canvas using the exact area you have to work with.

As you look around the internet you will note that there are five things that every successful websites has. These things are not here by accident but serve a very specific purpose drawing targeted readers to their destination.

Keywords will lead your readers to your website It is important to use high quality, highly searched keywords specifically targeted to your potential clients.

Create a headline that grabs their attention. You have seconds to get their interest in the material you are presenting.

Unique content is a must if you plan to get attention from potential clients and the search engines. People do not want to read the same thing rehashed a dozen different ways. Content should be fresh, and unique to your view point.

Quality links pointing people to other useful information and products you are promoting should be simple and easy to use. Do not make your visitors jump through hoops to find what they are looking for.

Finally, provide your contact information. Do not go to all the hard work of designing your perfect website only to leave out his crucial element. Interested readers and potential clients will want a way to contact you, so make it easy for them.

Whether you are designing your own website, want to put together a newsletter for your company, or are looking to publish a small magazined, Microsoft Publisher is a great tool to accomplish your goals. Chances are you have been using Microsoft Windows based applications for your word processing and spreadsheet needs via Microsoft Word or Excel. Just as those applications makes life easier for documents and organizational needs, Microsoft Publisher can really help keep your published works looking great.

A lot of the mechanics of using Microsoft Publisher is similar to other Microsoft Office programs, so if you are familiar with one, you will have enough of a base knowledge to get started. By using Publisher instead of relying on Word exclusively, you give yourself access to a better variety of typefaces and better photo editing tools.

There are also many predesigned templates that can help get you started as well as additional templates to download, and for more advanced users there is the option to create your own.

Microsoft Publisher also offers great visibility of you final product before you print it out. You can view the front and back of your publication at the same time, and see a large print preview complete with page numbers, margins, and other boundaries saving you from wasteful test printouts. In short, Microsoft Publisher is a great choice for your desktop publishing needs.

Anyone that wants to make their own online advertising using banner ads will inevitably need some tips before buying some design software. After all, not all design software is created equal. In addition, why should they pay for features that will not be used? Some of the expensive design software that comes with all of the bells and whistles can cost thousands of dollars. Therefore, by following some sensible tips the website owner can ensure they are not paying for more features then they actually need.

The first tip is to decide what kind of ads will be required. There is no sense in spending hundreds of dollars on design software to make flash banner ads if motionless ads will suffice. A website owner can use a regular graphic editor, which are sometimes free, to make some spectacular banner ads. The second tip is to find software that does not require a computer engineering degree just to use. Some of the design software out there can be very complex. Many of us do not have the time to spend learning a huge software program. Finally, make sure the software is expandable with plug-ins. This will ensure the designs are always up to date with the latest trends in graphic design.

Before we get too caught up in technology and forget to take a look back from whence banner advertising started, we should pay homage to the original form of banner-hype: the vinyl banner that was used (and is still used) to call attention for such themes as weddings, sports events, real estate marketing and identification, restaurant openings, and more. The concept of the physical banner was the same as the virtual banner to get attention and withstand the test of time. Vinyl banners can be printed with any image or information, similar to its virtual offspring, and with the advent of online design tools, they can also be designed in any array of colors or text sizes to create the exact message intended to convey. Bu unlike their virtual offspring, vinyl banners can be displayed outdoors in any weather since they are weather-resistant to pretty much any element. So it seems that even though technology marches forward, there might still be a place for a trusted old friend that started the whole revolution to begin with!

You know how it is with most things in life everyone has an opinion. And so it is when it comes to designing effective banner ads. But with that said, there are a few tricks of the trade that remain pretty constant and should be incorporated whenever possible. 1.Call to Action: Always (yes, you read that right ALWAYS) include a call to action like “click here” or “enter” to increase effectiveness of a banner ad by as much as 30. And along these same lines is to create a captivating headline which many consider the first call to action since its purpose is to inspire the viewer to want to read more. 2.Use Blue: Studies have shown that blue underlined text, even in headlines, increased response rate dramatically since viewers automatically assume this color as a link to more information and as a society, we are information hungry. Also, regarding borders, studies have also shown that the color blue when used as a border will influence more clicks than any other color. 3.Speed Counts: As a culture our attention span is shrinking with every mouse-click it seems. So to counter a potential customer from leaving prematurely, make sure your banner ad loads quickly. This is best accomplished by avoiding complex animation and keeping the file size small around 10KB is optimum. Some animation is proven to be beneficial in grabbing attention, but the key is to keep it simple and not let it be counter-productive to your ultimate goal. And here’s a freebie for you by all means change your banner ads often. Studies show they lose their effectiveness after they have been viewed three times and if they haven’t been clicked on it by then, they’re certainly not going to be clicked on when they’re stale!
